Faculty Editorial Commentary: 30 years of JPBS, Renewed Commitment.
A long over due survey through the archives for the Journal of Psychology
and the Behavioral Sciences, has revealed that the very first issue appeared
over 30 years ago (May, 1966). Drs. D. C. Shiffman and R. B. Vacchiano
were the first FDU-Madison faculty advisors who started the Journal. A
staff of 11 students (R. Arace, M. Porter, M. Penta, T. Moroney, K. Kramer,
W. Diamond, J. Arslan, A. Marsh, F. Lieb, K. Raub and A. Tensel) assisted
in publishing a 36 page issue with a modest 5 manuscripts. We ask that
when these words are read by any of these first editorial staffers, please
call us to keep in touch and so we can assure you that the spirit of the
Journal you started continues to make significant contributions at FDU
and beyond.
The 1996 staff of JPBS commemorates this 30 Year Anniversary by proudly
dedicating our new Website page and Volume #10 to salute the intent and
mission of the original editorial staff and faculty advisors of JPBS. We
wish to re-affirm that we will continue to provide a publishing forum highlighting
the value of student-mentor research efforts contributing to the understanding
of the psychological nature of human existence. Moreover, the staff of
1996 broadens the scope of the Journal to include ALL AREAS of psychology.
We also wish to announce the adoption of a "theme" section for the Journal.
As we live in a time wherein drug addiction continues to increase human
suffering and death at an alarming rate, our first theme section focuses
on a potential psychopharmacological treatment for alcoholism, naltrexone.
Naltrexone is a pure opioid antagonist that is marketed by DuPont Pharmaceuticals
as ReVia@. The next theme topic (Vol. #11, 1997 ) will focus on the effects
and treatments for nicotine. Your contributions regarding pharmacological
or counseling treatments for nicotine addiction are encouraged.
In addition, we will continue to extend "an invitation to other universities,
similarly dedicated to individual research, to contribute their scientific
findings (JPBS 1966)." For this opportunity, we wish to thank the FDU Madison
Deans and Administrators for providing financial support and for their
continued recognition of the educational value that the Journal represents
for FDU psychology students as well as for graduate and undergraduate Psychology
students elsewhere. Our Exemplar of integrity and unceasing encouragement
remains Dr. Robert M. Chell, Department of Psychology Chairperson and 25
year supporter of this Journal.

JPBS is currently an annual periodical published by the Psychology Department of Fairleigh Dickinson University at Madison, New Jersey. The responsibility for review and contact is the responsibility of our undergraduate and graduate journal student officers coordinated by the current student editor. Past volumes of articles in print (and copyrighted) are available for reading via the Internet. At this time, new manuscripts sent via e-mail will not be accepted for consideration.
JPBS offers undergraduate and graduate students as well as faculty an opportunity to publish in a recognized academic journal however, the student, and not the faculty mentor, must be the first author of any accepted submission. Manuscripts submitted wherein the Ph.D. is first author will be rejected. Thus, we mean to be very clear that JPBS is a student-run journal for students. Articles in ANY topical area of psychology are considered including, but not limited to:
Behavioral Neuroscience, Social, Sport, Industrial/Organizational, Clinical, Substance Abuse, Addictions, Personality, Learning, Psychopharmacology, Health, Medical, Cognitive, Psychotraumatology, Developmental, Psychology of Women/Men, Developmental, Experimental, Humanistic; Transpersonal and Peace Psychology.
Note: All JPBS text/graphics and correspondence were processed by a single Power Macintosh 7200. All web pages were processed by HAL 5000, an independent PC.
